For Flash, my reference point is other Newgrounds work. Newgrounds is essentially the largest global community of flash authors, and as such it is the baseline I use for quality.

My music reviews may tend to appear harsher, but this is not because I have any hostility for musicians. Rather, it is because my standards are different. I will not just compare your music to other music from Newgrounds; I will compare it to music out there in the world. This means that if you submit, say, dance music, I will compare it to the works of Scott Brown, Armin Buren, DHC, and other internationally acclaimed artists. They are, after all, your competition - I could easily be listening to one of their tracks instead of one of yours. It is my hope that my honest criticism will encourage you in your attempt to make it to that level.
